Are You a Maker? Workshop Series

February 22, March 1, March 8, and March 10

The popular Are You a Maker? Workshop series returns with a new theme—everyday objects taken to the extreme! Work together in child and adult pairs and get hands-on with ordinary materials, such as cardboard boxes, paper, and tape, to explore scientific principles and engineer complex creations. Designed and led in part by Dan Schneiderman, co-chair of Maker Faire Rochester, the Are You a Maker? series is limited to 20 adult/child pairs. (Children must be between ages eight and 12.)

The program concludes with a celebration at The Strong where participants share their favorite construction with the public in a special display.

Workshop Schedule

  •   Friday, February 22, 6:30–8 p.m.: Understand how cardboard boxes maintain their stability and put that knowledge to use building furniture and costumes.

  •   Friday, March 8, 6:30–8 p.m.: Using paper, build two-and-three dimensional designs and circuits.
  •   Sunday, March 10, noon to 2 p.m.: Maker Celebration and Showcase! Choose your favorite project to showcase in a display at The Strong and enjoy free general admission for the day.
